Abstract

Currently, oil is the main source of energy used in the world. In Brazil, much of the oil exploration is carried offshore. Despite the inconvenience environmental, social and economic generated by oil spills at sea, this practical still is frequent. Even with the effort put in preventive measures, there is always a risk of spills. In 2000, entered into force the Law 9966, that mandated the mapping of sensitive areas to oil spills for the entire Brazilian coast. In this sense, this research aimed to analyze the environmental and social impacts generated by oil spills in the fishing activity in the São Sebastião municipality. Through documentary analysis, interviews and questionnaires to those concerned with fishing.
