Abstract

The technical, social and legal exigencies related with the selection of sites for urban waste solid disposal are very difficult, mainly for little towns administration in Brazil, due to the absence of financial and technical resources. Despite of the good legislation and technical recommendations existing in Brazil the prefectures don’t have the technical resources and enough people to do this work. These difficulties made urban administration selected sites without minimal technical considerations producing serious environmental risks. In this reality, technicians called to analyze these occupation proposal have some problems to define, land use criterion and technical solutions for this solid waste disposal works, without enough information. This paper describes how this problem occurs in two little towns in São Paulo State – Brazil, the technical solutions adopted for these land use situations, and the methodological proposal for these kind of studies. The proposal involves ground evaluation based on simple and low cost investigation techniques to provide the minimal information set for land evaluation. The two examples showed that the proposed technique is practicable and furnish the necessary information for correct construction techniques and dispose methods in these situations.
