Abstract

The lobsters of the Family Palinuridae, Panulirus argus, P. laevicauda and P. echinatus are important economic fishery resources of the Northeast of Brazil. P. echinatus is the only species fished commercially. However, due to the lack of data on its biology and population dynamics, no fishing regulation exists. The samples were manually collected randomly within the intertidal reef pools of the Biological Reserve of "Atol das Rocas" between July, 2000 and March, 2001. The females represented 66.9% of the samples. The total length was between 8.1 and 22.8 cm for the females and 5.8 and 25.7 cm for the males.
