Abstract

Waste management techniques can result in significant reduction of environmental damage. However, the implementation of such techniques requires knowledge about management and its relationship with the community under consideration. Much has been written regarding methods and techniques for dealing with solid household wastes, but the same is not true of commercial wastes. This article proposes a systematic approach to collecting data on commercial solid waste management in Santa Fé do Sul - SP, with the aim of providing information to support proposals for management alternatives to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill. The process involves survey activities with commercial enterprises to identify kinds of waste produced by different commercial activities and, based on this knowledge, the proposition of management techniques for commercial waste.
