ASPECTS AND BENEFITS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ISO 14001 CERTIFICATION IN BUSINESS LOGISTICS SECTOR IN THE METROPOLITAN REGION OF CAMPINAS

The implementation of environmental management systems in the business sector in its various sectors, comes to meet the demands of contemporary society for products and services that incorporate the paradigm of sustainable development and which represent a low environmental impact. In this respect, is part of the logistics business, due to its importance in the Brazilian market. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of implementation of ISO 14001 certification on the environmental performance in a logistics company located in the metropolitan region of Campinas (RMC). The methodology was based on the survey of environmental aspects and impacts involved and the selection of appropriate and measurable indicators of the specific activity of the certified company, in 2008, and is the sole provider of logistics services for a major automotive industry the RMC. In this respect, were selected as indicators of environmental performance the number of non-compliance, the consumption of energy and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and the generation of waste per vehicle produced by the automobile industry (VPAI), a survey covering the period from 2007 to 2009. The results show an improvement in environmental performance, although the period covered in this study also demonstrates that the company was going through a transition phase. There was a 22% reduction in waste generation, and in 18% and 2.5% in the consumption of LPG and electricity for VPAI after the environmental certification, even in an period of implementation of new projects and growth.Downloads
